Champaign County is a mid-sized west-central Ohio county with the city of Urbana as its county seat. The county sits at the geographic heart of Ohio's glaciated plains and has a strong agricultural economy alongside manufacturing. A Franklin University branch — is an important educational anchor, and the county is home to several significant natural areas including Cedar Bog Nature Preserve near Urbana — actually a fen (not a bog), and one of the finest examples of calcareous marl fen in the world, a National Natural Landmark rich in rare plant species. Major employers include Honda of America Mfg. (Marysville Assembly Plant is nearby), Graco Children's Products (formerly based here), and agricultural operations. The Mad River flows through the county and offers recreation. The county has a modest, rural character with a strong community identity and hosts the annual Champaign County Fair as a summer highlight.
