Lorain County is a dynamic north-central Ohio county on the southern shore of Lake Erie and the ninth most populous county in Ohio — and Elyria as its county seat. The county's economy spans manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and education, anchored by Lorain County Community College (one of Ohio's finest community colleges, the first in Ohio with a permanent campus) and Oberlin College — the pioneering liberal arts institution that was the first college in the United States to admit both women and Black students on equal footing.
