Gallipolis is a small village, located on the banks of the Ohio River. It is the county seat of Gallia County and has a population of 3,313 as of 2020. Gallipolis was founded in 1790 by a group of French immigrants who fled the French Revolution. They were known as the French 500 and they settled in what is now the City Park. They later received free land from the US government in the French Grant. Gallipolis is nicknamed "The City of the Gauls" and "The Old French City" because of its history.
