Ironton, Ohio
Ironton is located along the Ohio River. It has a population of about 10,434 people as of 2021. It was founded in 1849 by John Campbell, a pig iron manufacturer, and became one of the world's leading producers of iron in the 19th century. Some of the iron from Ironton was used for the USS Monitor, the first ironclad ship of the US Navy.

Ironton was also a destination on the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves seeking freedom in the North. Some of the city leaders, including John Campbell, sheltered slaves in their homes during their journeys. Ironton also played a role in the Civil War, as it hosted a military camp and several regiments.
