McArthur is a village in Vinton County. It has a population of 1,783 as of 2020 and is the county seat of Vinton County which was founded in 1815 by Duncan McArthur, a general in the War of 1812. Some places of interest in McArthur are the Trinity Episcopal Church, a historic site built in 1849, and the Lake Hope State Park, a scenic natural area with hiking trails, camping sites and a lake. The largest employers in the city are the Vinton County Local School District, the Vinton County Courthouse and the McArthur Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
