Sheffield Lake is a compact lakefront city on the southern shore of Lake Erie in northern Lorain County, with a 2024 estimated population of approximately 8,900. As a smaller community sandwiched between the larger cities of Lorain and Avon Lake, Sheffield Lake offers residents direct Lake Erie access and a strong waterfront identity. A defining feature of the community's economic story is the massive Ford Motor Company Ohio Assembly Plant — whose sprawling 3.7 million square foot facility spans Sheffield Lake, Avon Lake, and Sheffield Village — making Ford one of the most significant employers for area residents. The city is home to the Domonkas Branch of the Lorain Public Library System — built through a generous donation by a local couple — and the Joyce Hanks Community Center. Students are served by the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City School District (shared with Sheffield Village).
