Woodsfield, is a village and the county seat of Monroe County, located 30 miles northeast of Marietta. According to the 2020 census, the population of Woodsfield was 2,360. Woodsfield was founded in 1813 as the seat of the newly formed Monroe County and was named after Archibald Woods. The village is known as "The Switzerland of Ohio" because of its scenic landscape and its Swiss and German heritage.
