Guernsey County is an east-central Ohio county with the city of Cambridge as its county seat. Like much of eastern Ohio, Guernsey County has experienced a renaissance through shale energy development in the Utica and Marcellus formations, bringing investment and employment that has buoyed the local economy. The county is known for its beautiful rolling terrain — classic Appalachian plateau country — and is home to Salt Fork State Park and Salt Fork State Lodge — Ohio's largest state park and one of the most popular resort lodge destinations in the state, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Cambridge was historically a major center of glass manufacturing, and the National Cambridge Collectors Museum celebrates the extraordinary history of Cambridge Glass, prized by collectors worldwide. Southeastern Med is the primary healthcare employer. The county's unique combination of outdoor recreation, energy industry, and heritage tourism makes it a distinctive part of Appalachian Ohio.
