Madison County is a west-central Ohio county, centered on London as the county seat. The county sits in the heart of Ohio's most productive agricultural land and has experienced some growth as a suburban extension of the Columbus metropolitan area. The county's most distinctive feature economically is the presence of several major correctional facilities — including the Madison Correctional Institution and the London Correctional Institution, Amazon (Logistics & Distribution), Stanley Electric (US), and Jefferson Industries Corp. — which are significant employers in the region. Honda of America's presence in neighboring Union County spills economic activity into Madison County. The county has a pleasant agricultural character with flat glaciated terrain, and its proximity to Columbus via I-70 and US-40 (the National Road — the first federally funded highway in American history, which cuts through the county) makes it increasingly attractive for residential development and logistics operations.
